We had our 3rd Ultrasound this afternoon. We are at 13 weeks. This appointment is for the Nuchal Translucency screening of the baby. For more info on what that is you can click the link associated with the test name. But basically it helps our doctor assess the baby's risk of having Down syndrome (DS) and some other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems.
Tre woke up super early today so we thought we'd have no problem getting to the doctor on time, however, I assume due to the early rise of our little toddler, he decided to take a 3 hour nap. I was packing the bags and getting things organized and started to impatiently await his wake. I HATE with a passion to wake him up when he is sleeping, I've always believed that if he is sleeping most likely it is because he needs the rest and he will wake up when he is ready. More strongly believe that now with the 1 nap than I did and could sometimes with the multiple naps, but even then it bothered me to wake him up without him waking on his own. Luckily he began to stir at 2:30pm so we got the rest of our stuff ready and after a few minutes of him laying in his crib I walked in to greet him and then Jammer came in to help speed along the process since most often when Tre sees his Daddy he jumps up and immediately wants out of his crib. We got him dressed super fast and out the door.
I was worried the whole drive down that we were going to be late. We made it with 2 minutes to spare. OR so I thought, apparently Verizon Wireless time was different than their clock. They said it was exactly 3:15pm and were quickly rushing me in to the back to start the ultrasound, however I was dragging my feet a bit because Jammer had dropped Tre and I off downstairs and went to go park the car. I figured like most all appointments we would be sitting in the waiting room for at least 10 minutes before they would be ready to see us. NOPE, not this time, this sonographer was waiting for me to get there and was RUSHING me to the back to start the ultrasound. Apparently she had somewhere she wanted to be because it was by far the WORST ultrasound experience I have had. I told them I was waiting for my husband to come up and they were like, oh we'll show him in when he gets here, but I was like, um...hello, he wants to be there for the WHOLE ultrasound. Poor guy took off work today to be there to see the baby on the screen and that didn't seem to matter one bit to this girl. I tried to walk slowly and then had to get Tre into a position that I could somewhat see him, since Jammer wasn't there yet. The girl didn't seem to care about anything but getting this job over with and us out the door. Thankfully Tre was really good while it was just him and me in there. Poor Jammer only got to see like 1/2 a minute's worth of baby. He looked so upset and I was SUPER bothered. As I was trying to push Tre's stroller back against a wall so he could face me, she was already telling me to get on the table and sit down. I was like...um, I'm trying to get my son situated and text my husband so he knows where I am and what to do (figured he needed a heads up so he could RUN as fast as he can to get there once he parked).
The most annoying part was when he finally got there, she said, "oh perfect timing, I just finished." I was thinking, WHAT? How is that perfect timing? She did at least put the mechanism back on my tummy to show him a little bit of the baby, but Tre started to fuss a bit and she immediately stopped and was like, well, that's your baby. You guys are all set, here is some pictures, bye bye and rushed us out the door. Poor Jammer, I felt horrible for him. Then we had to wait over 30 minutes to see my doctor to tell us that everything looks great.
Needless to say it was not the great experience we had the last time, I'm wondering if there is a way that I can request to NOT have that sonographer ever again. She really ruined the excitement of it all. I could tell Jammer was super bothered the rest of the appointment and I couldn't blame him. Plus Tre was OVER it after 15 minutes of waiting in the waiting room. Jammer was like, we would've been better off doing something else, Tre and I. I agreed, but how were we supposed to know that would happen? I mentioned something to my doctor's nurse since she asked if it was fun during the ultrasound and I explained to her in fact it was not and the sonographer was rather rude to not wait the 3 minutes for my husband to come join me. She was surprised and apologized, but of course what can be done at that point?
At least we have an appointment to find out the gender of our baby on March 21st so we'll be able to spend quality time as a family and watch our baby on the screen as well as find out what we are having. Can't Wait!!
Here are the rest of today's ultrasound pics...
